Plugged In

-------

At the crossroads of beauty and technology lays an increasingly crowded intersection. Between apps that allow you to test out products via digital makeovers before you buy and newfangled carbon dioxide extraction methods that allow perfumers to simulate the scent of everything from caviar to truffles, the opportunities for advancement between these two areas of interest seem to know no bounds. Case in point: the USB scent diffuser. No, this is not a joke; yes, this is a real device dreamed up by the geniuses at Florame—and it works with any of the Provence-based essential oil brand’s selection of organic aromas. Pick from fragrances like bergamot, verbena, peppermint, or lavender, fill the miniature bottle included in the package with your oil of choice, insert it into the specially designed USB portal, plug it into your computer, and let the air purification begin. Additional features include three different settings to regulate scent dispersal, for those days when you need a little extra burst of energizing grapefruit essence at the office. The device doesn’t store data like an actual flash drive—yet; we imagine it’s only a matter of time before that too becomes a reality.

What a nice idea, in case the diffusers bought from Gilt don’t work…
