Caboodles Does The Time Warp Again
1987 was a pretty big year. U2 released Joshua Tree, Patrick Swayze taught Jennifer Grey some sweet moves, the Olsen twins stole hearts as Michelle Tanner, and hair bands like Van Halen, Motley Crue, and Guns N’ Roses inspired gravity-defying ‘dos (and an unhealthy addiction to Aqua Net). It also was the year that I, along with countless other girls, was introduced to the Caboodle. The genius invention, which was inspired by a picture in People magazine of Vanna White using a tackle box as a makeup organizer, had divided compartments and multilevel trays that made keeping my Lip Smackers, Oil of Olay, and friendship bracelets neatly arranged a breeze. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the birth of the beauty box next month, Caboodles is re-releasing the very first model, a peach and cream-colored wonder, called My First Love in a limited 1,000-piece run. If you’re feeling particularly nostalgic, we recommend a once-over with puffy paint and smattering of True Blue-era Madonna stickers to give it a truly authentic touch.
