Retro Hair Redux

-------

There was perhaps no more glamorous era of beauty than the 1940s. The height of the studio-made movie star (and the rise of the equally influential, although less publicized, fetish photography star), it was the moment that red lipstick earned its current “classic” designation and also the decade that ushered in a move toward waves and curls, which were tonged and pinned to create beautiful ridges and a mysterious sex appeal. The look that was originally embodied by starlets like Lauren Bacall and Maureen O’Hara has enjoyed a recent revival courtesy of new-era screen sirens like Rihanna and Diane Kruger. Ever the hair chameleon, Rihanna’s weave du jour involves a thick swirl of retro, raven forehead fringe, a purposeful series of twists and bends that Kruger borrowed for the half-up, half-down she wore to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Vendôme boutique opening last night in Paris. The style was totally due for a reprise, if you ask us. Do you agree?
