A stylist once told me that an Epsom-salt bath before an event will help relieve bloating and make it easier to fit into tight clothing. Any truth to that? Any other good solutions for diminishing bloat?

“Epsom-salt baths have a lot of great benefits. They can help relieve bloating as well as muscle aches. Other than Epsom-salt baths, colon hydrotherapy helps relieve bloating and constipation. It also flushes the digestive tract and typically offers immediate relief. Whenever considering colon hydrotherapy, it is best to consult with your colon hydrotherapist to discuss what is the best protocol.

“Incorporating warm lemon water and fresh green juice (celery, cucumber, spinach, kale, lemon) while also reducing your overall intake of processed and sugary foods and dried fruits may help reduce bloating. Taking the Indian spice Ajwain seed for post-meal bloat is very helpful in easing digestion as well.

“A longer-term approach to battle bloating is finding a diet that works well for you. Avoid processed, refined, and fried foods and adopt a diet rich in quality whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and protein. Some foods, like nuts, beans, and lentils, can cause more bloating than others, so see how they work for you. Overall, having regular bowel movements, staying well hydrated, and supporting your gut flora with probiotics and whole foods are your best bets to battle bloat.”
