J.Crew’s Hair Apparent

-------

Lavett-Chin-JcrewJ.Crew’s evolution into a fashion-forward clothing and accessories powerhouse is well-charted territory. Less talked about, however, is the brand’s increasingly impressive beauty presence. It started with select shades of Essie nail polish, NARS lipsticks, and L’Occitane hand creams that the retailer began stocking at its stores and in its catalogs, and segued into custom-color partnerships with Lipstick Queen’s Poppy King and Face Stockholm. This summer, the retailer added a new category to its In Good Company collaboration program: hair care. The retailer recently began carrying Lavett & Chin, the sulfate-, paraben-, petrochemical-, synthetic-dye-, and fragrance-free line that was started by two hairstyling veterans and includes just two incredibly well-made, high-performing products: the Sea/Salt Texturizing Mist, which is blended with pure Maris sea salt, which is harvested from North America’s only active sea-salt bed, and organic rose flower water to make sure you get the beachy waves without drying out your strands; and the No. 02 Pomade, a super-luxe Indian-mango-butter and Ugandan-shea-butter salve scented with ginger root from Madagascar that has an incredibly malleable, light hold that never feels hard or sticky. Both products are unisex, too, so they’re fun for the whole family—just like J.Crew’s cardigans, which have long been fought over, er, sharedPhoto: Courtesy of J.Crew
