Seventies Swagger for Your Nails
If we didn’t know any better, we would strongly suspect that the beauty geniuses at Maybelline New York have been spending a lot of time at thrift shops in Williamsburg. Their newest collection of nail polishes, the Vintage Leather line by Color Show, conjures up images of a 1970s patchwork leather trenchcoat. The limited-edition range features rich shades that Marcia Brady would approve of, like dark mustard, olive green, burnt sienna, and maroon, but despite the retro palette, the finish fits right in with the textured-nail trend that has captivated nail junkies everywhere in 2013.
The polish isn’t exactly like leather (which could explain why there’s no black or brown shade), but it’s still edgy. When the opaque color dries down, it resembles matte rubber with a hint of shine—it’s as if there were tiny shards of glass in the formula. And since it’s not quite cool enough yet to don a leather jacket, we’re considering this the next best thing.
The Vintage Leather line by Color Show, $4 each, available in September 2013 only, at maybelline.com.
