The Odd Couple
A fragrance launch typically coincides with the seasons—light, fruity, sunscreen-inspired scents usually roll out right before summer, while heady, party-worthy blends make their debut just in time for the holidays. So when Soap & Paper Factory’s sea collection recently came across my desk, I was intrigued. An ode to Fiji and sun-drenched beaches, the three eaux—Aqua, Pearl, and Coral—aren’t exactly what I’d initially think to pair with fall’s wool sweaters. But then again, why not counterbalance the season’s heavy fabrics with a splash of tiare blossom, ginger, bamboo, and basil (all notes found in Coral)? Or remind yourself of lazy days lounging poolside with Pearl, which contains hints of lemon, sandalwood, and lily of the valley. Aqua, a combo of hyacinth, fig leaf, and amber, is slightly deeper than the others in the range, but still a reminder of warmer days as you slip on a jacket. As the age-old adage goes, perhaps opposites really do attract.
