Treasures From the Sea

As a beauty editor, there’s no doubt that a houseguest or two has entered my cluttered Brooklyn bathroom and thought, She’s got everything. And it’s true that I have gadgets and gizmos aplenty, whozits and whatzits galore. You want thingamabobs? I’ve got twenty! But who cares? No big deal, I wanted more. And in the case of indie fragrance brand Mermaid Perfume, I knew I could find space in my cavern of treasures for its latest additions to the line: shampoo and conditioner. Honestly, the name alone was like a siren’s call to my inner 6-year-old self. Laced with sweet orange blossom notes along with a hint of creamy coconut, this sulfate-free duo left my strands smelling like a piña colada. And while I imagined these all-natural formulas—boasting ingredients like brown and red seaweed in lieu of harsh chemicals—would leave my hair looking more sea tousled than silky, there wasn’t a snarl in site post-shower. When that crab (or was it a lobster?), also known as Horatio Thelonious Ignacious Crustaceous Sebastian (his full name, according to a rigorous Google search), said things under the sea are better, I’d have to agree.

$35 each, or $60 for the pair;
