Beauty 411: Anna Kaiser

-------

anna-kaiserIt remains, in my mind at least, one of the most memorable things from the franchise that was Sex and the City: abs. Specifically those belonging to one Sarah Jessica Parker (a.k.a. Carrie Bradshaw). And ever since the show’s demise, the maintenance of that slender washboard midriff made famous by HBO has fallen to Anna Kaiser, ab sculptor extraordinaire. Kaiser, who also counts the superior-abbed Kelly Ripa and Shakira as clients, started her career as a professional dancer. Now that training is front and center in the dance-cardio exercise regimen that has become her signature—and as of this fall, is available to the masses (well, the New York masses, that is) at Kaiser’s flagship studio, AKT in Motion on the Upper East Side. Here, the high-energy fitness guru shares some of her own beautifying go-tos.

THE MASTER BLONDER: Laurie Daniel at Eva Scrivo Salon
“Ever since moving to New York from California I hadn’t been able to find the right colorist for my blond hair. A friend of mine introduced me to Laurie, and I fell in love with her! She’s incredible and so gentle with my hair. I’ve been following her to different salons ever since.”

THE COMPLEXION MAGICIAN: Dr. Gervaise Gerstner
“Honestly, there is no skin question this amazing woman can’t answer—anything from zapping that trouble spot last-minute to makeup tricks to post-sun rejuvenation. She is the best. Plus, she’s so chic!”

THE MUSCLE MANIPULATOR: Michael Ciardulli, MC Bodywork
“I am an athlete, so an amazing sports massage is essential. Michael and his team are the best out there. You stand up feeling like a new person, refreshed and ready to get back to work…and working out!”

THE ONE-STOP SHOP: Kirna Zabête
“With my crazy schedule, I don’t have as much time as I’d like to think about my style. So my stallion stylist, Everest at Kirna Zabête, is able to put aside pieces for me to run in and try on. They have a list of past purchases to better help round out your style. They can even send options to you. It’s the best shopping experience ever!”

THE MEAL DELIVERY: Citrus
“Sometimes after a long day of working out, I just want some delicious comfort food. My husband and I will order the most incredible white truffle mushroom quesadillas and steak salad from Citrus. Totally mouthwatering.”

THE RELAXING FACIAL: Clarins Skin Spa
“Honestly, this is heaven as far as facials go. The [aesthetician's] fingers are so delicate, and add to that a warm-oil hand and foot rub, and I’m out like a light. Such an incredible escape from the harsh NYC elements.”

247 Columbus Ave., NY, (212) 362-0190, clarinsusa.com

THE FITNESS FASHION: Nike Flagship and Adidas Flagship
“It’s so hard to choose just one! But when I’m in need of a fitness style fix, I’ll head to the Nike flagship in midtown or the Adidas flagship in Soho. So many options, you could spend hours trying them on.”

Nike, 6 E. 57th St., NY, (212) 891-6453, nike.com; Adidas, 610 Broadway, NY, (212) 529-0081, adidas.com

THE BUZZ BREAK: Café Grumpy
“Not only the best coffee ever, but an adorable neighborhood haunt where electronics are not encouraged. Occasionally I’ll create a much-needed weekend break and head down with my favorite new novel.”

224 W. 20th St., NY, (212) 255-5511, cafegrumpy.com

THE SECRET INDULGENCE: Angel Feet
“This tiny haven is a hidden gem in the West Village, and the best foot massage of my entire life. Prepare to unwind, completely melt away, and wake up sixty minutes later.”

77 Perry St., NY, (212) 924-3576, angelfeet.com

THE HAIR HELPER: Kérastase Masquintense
“I condition with this hair mask daily and deep condition once a week. Sweating for a living can wreak havoc on your tresses! Salt sitting on my strands for twelve-hour days requires some extra care, and this does the trick.”

THE MAKEUP MUST: MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Eye Liner
“I love this liner for giving eyes a little extra oomph. For me, it’s important to look my best without looking overly made up, and this really goes the distance. Even during a two-hour session, it doesn’t sweat off.”

THE SKIN ESSENTIALS:
“I couldn’t ask for a better drugstore find than the L’Oréal BB Cream. It provides awesome moisture and coverage while retaining a light, even tone and texture. And Nuance Salma Hayek Ageless Clarity Gel Cleanser is a super-gentle wash that strips away impurities but manages to retain moisture.”

THE 24-7 SCENT: Gucci Flora
“I love this perfume for day and night. The musky scent for the evening along with the floral aroma for day creates the ultimate versatile scent.”
