Standout Tattoos Stake Their Claim on Instagram; MIT Discovers the Wave of the Future for Animated Films; and More

-------

three-d-tattooThree-dimensional ink, the latest craze in the tattoo world, creates a chillingly realistic trompe l’oeil effect. A quick search of #3DTattoo on Instagram displays everything from butterfly tats that appear to take flight from the wearer’s stomach to intricate designs reminiscent of wood and animal paw prints that appear embedded in the skin. Thanks to a team of MIT researchers, animated movies will no longer be devoid of curly-haired leading ladies. Until now, movie heroines have donned straight styles because of their less complex texture. According to The Cut, the first 3-D model for a strand of curly hair developed by these scientists will simplify the design of wavy locks for animated films.

In its first-ever movie collaboration, Sephora has joined forces with the upcoming blockbuster Divergent, a “futuristic dystopia” starring Shailene Woodley. The limited-edition collection includes eye shadows, lip glosses, and nail colors. The High Gloss Transforming Eye Shadow—a transparent shade that turns translucent when wet—is a standout item we can’t wait to try. [WWD]

OPI’s new base coat, Glitter Off, takes the hassle out of the sparkly stuff (like the manicures that made an appearance on Meadham Kirchhoff’s Fall 2014 runway). When applied in a single coat under sparkles or dark colors, the lacquer can simply be peeled off—no nail polish remover needed. This genius formula is set to hit shelves in March.
