MAKE Is California Beauty Dreamin’

-------

make-we-see-beauty

Having just launched last year, MAKE, the New York City-based, for-benefit cosmetics brand, has proven that creativity is the focal point of its collections. (Last fall, for instance, the collaborative label launched its Post-Impression collection, with chromatic hues inspired by the Hudson River Valley.) And its latest, a partnership between retailer-turned-designer Maryam Nassir Zadeh and makeup artist Ozzy Salvatierra, is just as artful. Available this month, Celeste e Verde draws inspiration from the vibrant-yet-industrial landscape depicted in the 1964 Italian film Il Deserto Rosso, or Red Desert. (Celeste e Verde, which means “sky blue and green” in Italian, was the working title of the Michelangelo Antonioni-directed film.) The palette includes a mix of earthy tones, powdery pastels, and brightly pigmented hues evocative of the dreamy California lifestyle shown in the short film shot by Alexa Karolinski. Our must-haves: the bronzy, gold-flecked cream gel liner and minty, cobalt-blue gloss (dabbed on sparingly, of course).
