Texting With Anne Hathaway’s Shear Genius

In what was, by all accounts, a pretty dull Oscars telecast, there were some highlights to speak of. Jennifer Hudson was one (in a word, damn); Anne Hathaway was another. While we’re not going to come out and say we enjoyed the hosting stylings of Hathaway and Franco, per se, we will admit that Anne was without question the couple’s better half—and her (count them) EIGHT hair and makeup changes were something to behold. Of special note were the glittering eyelashes that makeup artist Kate Lee custom-made using individual, black Swarovski crystal-clad Ardell and Make Up For Ever lashes. And of course, that hair, which vacillated between up and down, soft and sleek, thanks to Frédéric Fekkai stylist Adir Abergel. Seeing as how getting backstage to take in all of the antics that surely ensued as the night went on (and on) wasn’t a possibility, we asked Abergel for his blow-by-blow via the next most immediate way: text message. Here, Abergel shares his thoughts from behind the front lines (spoiler alert: It gets emotional). And to see the complete Hathaway outfits, click here.

9 a.m.: Getting in the car with all the important things, like my parking pass to get into Kodak Theatre and my FHI Iron and Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray. I would die without those two things!

12:15 p.m.: Arrive 15 minutes late, of course (Los Angeles traffic!). I feel so blessed to have my assistant Sean here to help me through this very busy day ahead.

12:45 p.m.: Going through looks and setting up everything so when Anne sits I can start.

1:30 p.m.: Anne is in my chair! We’re blow-drying with Fekkai Bouffant and my Ibiza round brush. See you in a bit.

2 p.m.: OMG—Annie is wearing a beautiful red Valentino dress first. Why is that Valentino such a genius?
