In other Chanel beauty news, despite Brad Pitt’s memorable solo performance in the brand’s latest wave of ads for its iconic No. 5 fragrance, the E.U.’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety is bent on taking the classic flacon down a peg. The use of tree moss and oak moss, which provides the eau with its signature, woodsy aroma, is at risk of being outlawed as it has wound up on a list of 100 possible allergens that are potentially harmful to consumers. Deep Thoughts With Brad Pitt; Pat McGrath Talks Beauty Essentials; And More…

-------

Brad Pitt’s Chanel No. 5 commercial has (finally) gone viral—and it is intense. The Joe Wright-lensed spot features a reflective Pitt performing an emotive monologue that includes a deep, longing stare into the camera and the line “Wherever I go, there you are,” before the camera pans to a shot of the famous flacon and Pitt delivers the tag line: “Chanel No. 5: inevitable.” End scene! After a month of nonstop shows, Pat McGrath dishes on some of the beauty creature comforts that help keep her properly pampered during fashion month and beyond, including Juice Press Aloe Water, SK-II masks, Dr. Brandt Pores No More—and regular visits to Jin Soon Nail Spa. [T]

The best beauty remedy for dried-out hair may be hiding in your pantry—or liquor cabinet. Avocado moisturizing masks aside, a shot of vodka mixed with mayonnaise lowers the pH level of strands, closing the cuticles and boosting shine. [Time]

Brad, The Beautiful

-------

When it was announced last May that Brad Pitt would be the new face of Chanel No. 5, the first man to represent the famous flacon, we had just one question: Will he wear nothing but a few spritzes of the aldehyde, bergamot, jasmine, rose, and ylang-ylang eau to sleep at night next to Angie, à la Marilyn “naked except for a few drops” Monroe? While it may seem odd to have Pitt serve brand ambassador duties for a perfume that typically recruits starlets like Catherine Deneuve, Ali MacGraw, Nicole Kidman, and, most recently, Audrey Tatou for that honor, we get it: No. 5 is an icon, and so is Pitt; easy enough. To cement that icon status and in honor of Pitt’s Joe Wright-directed commercial for the perfume that debuts on Monday, we’ve rounded up some of the father of six’s most memorable beauty moments—both the good and the questionable—to help further explain why putting the blond boy wonder’s mug next to that classic, glass square bottle will likely distract, er, compel a great many women to indulge in a little dousing. Body By Palin; Scarlett Goes Hitchcock Blonde; And More…

Never mind those slightly unsettling pictures of the former governor of Alaska looking rail-thin—and sporting some…interesting highlights and frosted lipstick—that surfaced online yesterday. Sarah Palin is just fine, she says—and in the process of writing a health and fitness book. [People]

The beauty press can’t get enough of Brad Pitt as the debut of his first Chanel No. 5 ad grows near. Pitt’s latest blog fodder? Dreadlocks. The blond heartthrob gets all twisted up for the latest issue of Interview magazine. [Grazia]

Chanel No. 5, On Film; Dial B For Beauty Broker; And More…

-------

Chanel has just released a new Internet platform called Inside Chanel, which features a series of original short films that are meant to recount the events and people that helped forge the legend of Coco Chanel. One of the more gorgeous vignettes is a piece about Chanel No. 5. Fragrance, Mademoiselle always maintained, “should be as important as [a woman's] style of dress.” [Chanel]

In other Chanel No. 5 news, the brand has enlisted a man, Brad Pitt, to sell the storied scent for the first time ever, as previously reported. Now comes word that Pitt’s commercial will air on the 15th and has been directed by Joe Wright, he of Anna Karenina fame. [WWD]
