October is shaping up to be a big month for beauty fiends. In addition to all of the special limited-edition products on offer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the myriad ways you can use your liners and lipsticks to go crypt-keeper chic for Halloween, some of the biggest names in the biz have put pen to paper, offering up hardbound copies of their respective expertise. In a double shot from the glam squad on TLC’s What Not to Wear, hairstlyist Nick Arrojo brings us, Great Hair: Secrets to Looking Fabulous and Feeling Beautiful Every Day. A guide to helping you identify your hair type and then learn how to work with what you’ve got, the book offers some hope that one day, maybe—just maybe—you will stop bringing magazine tear sheets to the salon, demanding replication. For matters of the face, the show’s acclaimed makeup artist, Carmindy, debuts Get Positively Beautiful: The Ultimate Guide to Looking and Feeling Gorgeous—a “feel-good” book of sorts, in which she manages to provide equal parts self-help and application tips, filling 216 pages with progressive ways to enhance your natural features, not cover perceived flaws. (It also includes a nine-page shopping guide, btw). Last but not least, makeup monolith Bobbi Brown announced the release of Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual: For Everyone From Beginner to Pro this week as well. Due out in January 2009, it packs 25 years of experience into one complete volume, with over 200 full-color photos and step-by-step instructions. The book also has a bit of an entrepreneurial flair, with a guide for aspiring makeup artists on how to break into the business, put together a portfolio, work with photographers, etc. Consider your fall reading list effectively started.
