After 2009 produced a slew of side-shave posterchildren following Alice Dellal’s rise to fame, the razor loving eventually came to a halt. Short of the impromptu shear Christiaan gave Milla Jovovich on the set of a Love magazine shoot back in March, the style hasn’t seen many new adapters. But two of its die-hard fans—Dellal and Cassie—are still paying homage to the asymmetrical cut. Cassie was spotted freshly Bic’d in Cannes today, while Dellal did her signature short-on-one-side, long-blonde-and-wavy-on-the-other look proud at the Chanel Cruise show in Versailles earlier this week. And so, we ask you: As both women stay the side-shave course, who wears it better?
Carol’s Daughter is going “polyethnic” with a new multiracial ad campaign starring Solange Knowles, Selita Ebanks, and Cassie—all of whom embody different types of mixed-race beauty. The brand is trying to position itself as the go-to destination for all skin types and colors. [WWD]
Katy Perry’s Purr, Gucci’s Guilty, and Chanel’s Bleu de Chanel all won big at last night’s U.K. Fifi awards, which may be a sign of things to come at the annual event’s U.S. program next month. [Elle U.K.]
When in doubt, juice. That’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s motto. The svelte blonde’s favorite snacks include coconut water and kale juice, which she mixes with lemon, water, Vitamix, and agave. Paltrow admits that she does have a weakness for barbecue potato chips, though. So she is human! [Daily Mail]
Believe it or not, there is one product that the Kardashians have yet to co-opt for their beauty empire: nail polish. That all might change, however, as the sisters are rumored to be in talks with OPI to work on their own color collection. Make that Kolor Kollection. [Fashion Etc.]
…To her nails at last night’s premiere of the eagerly anticipated Vogue doc The September Issue. Quite a feat considering the fact that Cassie has been rocking only half a head of hair this summer (I can’t wait to see her grow-out approach). But her nails were, in a word, wicked. The shape (very long with square tips) and color (hot, hot, hot pink) were a clear nod to the eighties, as was her silky black jumpsuit. For a similar shade of bright pink, try NARS’ Schiap nail polish.
We have previously branded Cassie as part of Alice Dellal’s ever-growing troupe of doppelgängers, although at the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing sponsored by Louis Vuitton last night, she went from follower to trendsetter—or at least trend-modifier. Not content with a simple asymmetrical shave, the singer razored a design into the side of her head à la the popular early-nineties style. A good move, in our estimation, and one that seems necessary if only to separate herself from recent adapters of Dellal’s signature cut (we’re talking about you, Carmen Electra). Thoughts on the look?
OK, we’ll admit to not knowing much about British pop group Sugababes, but we do know an Alice Dellal knockoff when we see one. So, counting Cassie’s Bic experiments back in April, we’d venture to say that Dellal’s signature asymmetric shave is on its way to cult cut status. Would you ever go there?
