With Oz the Great and Powerful wrapped and headed to theaters, James Franco has announced his next project: Beautiful People. The biopic, which Franco will direct and star in, tells the story of Jay Sebring, who coiffed the celebrity set in the sixties, before being murdered—along with sometime girlfriend Sharon Tate—by Charles Manson’s cult. Sounds…light. [Guardian]

While we’ll admit to some trash talking on celebrities’ headband abuse earlier this year when awards season was in full swing (Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams—you know who you are), we’ve officially come around thanks to one increasingly well-styled up-and-comer: Chloë Moretz. The Kick Ass star—who will forever be known around these parts for her epic 30 Rock cameo—turned up to the CinemaCon awards ceremony last night in Las Vegas clad not only in a covetable Kenzo dress but with an adorable flat, black bow in her blonde locks, which was worn behind her ears and well past her hairline. The combination was age-appropriate for the 15-year-old, yet still managed to upstage many of the more established A-listers in the crowd. High marks for Moretz, as per usual. Thoughts on Hollywood’s latest hairband moment?
Update: Who makes Chloë’s headband? Jennifer Behr, of course.
Halle Berry has gone curly. The newly engaged Oscar winner cashed in her signature pixie for a full head of brunette ringlets, which she showed off at dinner with fiancé Olivier Martinez last night. [Daily Mail]
Despite a habit of wearing Miu Miu and Chanel on the red carpet, 15-year-old actress Chloë Moretz tries to keep it casual with her makeup. “I don’t wear a lot,” she says. “Just a little bit of concealer, Neutrogena Cover Stick in number 2, and I wear Chanel powder in Pêche Tendre and I do just a little Neutrogena blush palette. I’m very minimalist.” [Allure]
The stakes are high in any beauty pageant, but they’ve been elevated in the Miss Liberia contest—so much so that the country’s politicians have now gotten involved to try to clear up a mishap in which the wrong contestant was announced as the winner. The government has seized the crown and demanded a “situational report” on the fiasco. [Guardian]
Speaking of beauty pageantry, longstanding Miss Universe coach Inés Ligron has just put out a beauty tip DVD series that offers advice like this: “Look good in airports and planes because you never know who you will run into. If you have no time to put on makeup [on the plane], make sure to wear sunglasses. Then put on makeup at the lounge. Wear nice clothes always, sleep on the plane, and drink water.” Easier said than done on a ten-hour transcontinental jaunt—with layover—but we’ll keep it in mind. [WSJ]
Chloë Moretz may be refusing fashion campaign offers for now to give herself “room to spread [her] wings and grow up and become a young woman,” as she recently explained to New York magazine, but that hasn’t stopped her from becoming a fashion—and beauty—darling in the process. Over the past few months of premieres and awards shows, the Hugo star has doubled up on Proenza, sported a black Chanel frock, and slipped into a Suno wrap dress while working her hair into everything from a chin-grazing bob to a boy-meets-girl quiff. And then there was that Jalouse cover, which features the 14-year-old in a long, lavender-streaked wig with two barrettes placed just so along her hairline. It should be no surprise then that Moretz was first in line to flank Jason Wu at his Target collaboration launch party last night, an impressive coronet of knotted braids and a glossy black manicure in tow. We assume we’re not alone when we say that we can’t wait to see what she’s got planned for the Oscars. Thoughts on her look?
