After five jam-packed days of schmoozing with red-carpet regulars in Cannes, I’m back on New York soil—rain-soaked as it unfortunately may be. One of the highlights of my trip occurred on Saturday night when, while watching the sun go down over the Mediterranean from my perch on the roof of the Hotel Martinez, I got to talking with Marisa Berenson. In town as a juror for the Chopard Trophée, which was presented by Robert De Niro to up-and-comers Niels Schneider and Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Berenson dropped a beauty bomb. The actress and Diana Vreeland protégée revealed that the secret to maintaining her still mind-boggling good looks happens to be her own beauty products. “I’ve been using it for years,” she says of the all-natural range with a base of prickly pear—a potent antioxidant that refines skin texture and brightens the complexion. Berenson, who takes a holistic approach to beauty—”I eat bio, I take homeopathic medications”—is bringing her products to the masses later this year in the form of Sois Sublime, a spa line that is set to debut at the Sofitel in Morocco (make that the jet-set masses). “That’s only a part of the secret, though,” the 64-year-old says of staying young. “The rest is body, mind, and soul.”
Naomi Watts is back. After sporting one of our favorite beauty looks at the Met gala this year, the starlet has been killing it in Cannes with a variety of different hair and makeup schemes. At the premiere of Woody Allen’s You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger this weekend, the actress opted for a middle part, soft waves, and a dynamite red lip, only to switch it up for Chopard’s 150th anniversary party last night, going with a sleek and straight side part, a creamy nude pout, and a strong, black-rimmed eye. Talk about range. Which look do you prefer?
Summer is coming, and as per our conversation with celebrity stylist George Papanikolas earlier this week, that means it’s time to bring out your best blonde. No one knows how to fix up their flaxen for the season better than Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, and Claire Danes; all three actresses showed up to Chopard’s 150th anniversary party last night in New York sporting their own special brand of the hue. Gwyneth was the fairest of them all, adding a slight wave to her signature, middle-parted corn silk strands; K. Hud showcased a more ombré incarnation, with visible roots that transitioned into lighter mid-lengths with slightly darker sections at the ends; and Claire went for an almost uniform honey color with a deep side part. Who do you think did blonde best?
Both Marion Cotillard and Peaches Geldof showed up at the Chopard Trophy soirée last night in Cannes with lips painted in varying shades of scarlet. Cotillard used a more classic bloodred to dress up her finger-combed updo, while Geldof went brighter, opting for a glossy orange-ish incarnation to complement her heavily lined eyes and not one, but two hair accessories. Both work, we think, as good, personality-specific adaptations of the color’s versatility. Which resonates more with you?
