Chromatics, the quartet that will be opening for Pulp at Radio City tomorrow, played a not-so-secret show at Le Bain last night in front of a packed crowd that had the wherewithal to get into the private performance. The occasion offered the band an opportunity to debut its new album, Kill for Love—and some inventive eye makeup. Singer Ruth Radelet sported a precisely drawn cat-eye and three black polka dots, which dripped down her cheeks like perfectly symmetrical tears. Abstract face painting has always been the provenance of the indie rock set, but ever since Pat McGrath started pasting geometric materials onto models’ lids and temples during the Spring 2012 shows, getting crafty with hand-drawn shapes has been taken up by the fashion establishment as well. Behold, Anna Selezneva’s editorial in this month’s Numéro, which features a similar design courtesy of makeup artist Miranda Joyce. Be on the lookout for more fun with eye and lip liners when Coachella gets under way this weekend.
