The ladies who lunched with Louboutin today (like Emmy Rossum and Alessandra Ambrosio) broke out the flower crowns early—after all, there are still two weeks until Coachella. Blooms aside, Rossum once again proved that purple—no matter where you wear it—paired with berry lips makes for a stunning spring combo. Either the Shameless actress is following Dita Von Teese on Instagram for beauty inspiration or she’s reading Style.com, but judging by our recent interview, we’re just going to assume it’s the latter.
Dita Von Teese posted this photo on Instagram yesterday to celebrate the coming of lilac season (at least in warmer regions), but pretty spring blooms aside, the bigger beauty takeaway was how stunning a deep berry lip looks with pastels. In lieu of tucking away my darker tubes as the mercury rises, I’ll be keeping them in rotation to counter my saccharine sartorial choices (like the lavender Miu Miu jacket I’ve had buried at the back of my closet all winter). For a shade similar to the one the burlesque dancer is sporting here, try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry (currently available in limited-edition, Marchesa packaging).
At a recent dinner celebrating Zac Posen, I spotted none other than Dita Von Teese’s Charlotte Olympia clutch open on the table after the plates had been cleared. As a beauty editor, that minaudière was like a magnet, drawing me in closer to discover the keys to her flawless vintage look. And while I did find (with her permission, of course) a key—likely to her apartment or hotel room—nicotine gum, a Swarovski studded e-cigarette, and red lipstick, the most interesting treasure was a spiderweb compact covered in crystals. Later in the week, Posen would post a video on Instagram (below) featuring Von Teese touching up her crimson pout and powdering her nose using said bedazzled mirror. She turned a simple and routine gesture (one normally done in the privacy of the ladies’ room) into a full-on performance. But then again, I’d expect nothing less of the burlesque dancer. If you’re in need of a party trick this holiday season, take a cue from Von Teese and dare to reapply in public. And may I suggest doing it with this flashy Lulu Frost for Bobbi Brown Old Hollywood Compact in hand.
Burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese is often seen channeling Betty Grable, among other Old Hollywood screen sirens, but it is Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s unknown subject in his famous work Girl With a Pearl Earring that came to mind when I saw this photo from today’s Melbourne Cup in Australia (essentially the Kentucky Derby Down Under). The fuchsia lipstick and exotic orchids are a bit dramatic for the painter who kept his color palette simple and made a statement with light. However, bringing a masterpiece from the Dutch Golden Age to life for a day at the races is definitely deserving of some Beauty Counter kudos.
Well, that was fast. Not even a full month after debuting a red-carpet-stealing platinum-blonde dye job at this year’s Met Gala, Anne Hathaway is back to brunette. [NYDN]
Dita Von Teese does all of her own makeup, has been treating rosacea with the help of a dermatologist in Orange County for years, and stockpiles products from choice brands—as well as her own cosmetics range. So it shouldn’t be surprising that the burlesque queen had a little trouble selecting her top three beauty essentials during a recent interview. “Three? Oh my god, it’s more like 300! I have a lot of things that I absolutely can’t do without.” [Daily Mail]
The title of “Kate the Great” heretofore belongs to Ms. Middleton, not Ms. Moss. According to a new survey, the Duchess of Cambridge now beats out the super-est of them all when it comes to Britain’s most influential beauty icon. [Telegraph]
