EXCLUSIVE: Tom Ford On Makeup—And On Camera

After months of buzz and a few truly swoon-worthy capsule collections, Tom Ford’s full cosmetics range hit shelves exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman this week. And we don’t use the word “full” lightly: While Ford has dabbled in lipsticks and nail lacquers for one-offs and limited-edition Fashion’s Night Out promotions, he’s pulled out all of the stops for his latest launch, lending his design talent to four general categories: color, contouring, skincare, and scent. His color range includes blushes, lip glosses, nail lacquers, eye shadow quads, and the Noir Absolute for Eyes, a multitasking black pigment that can be worn as a shadow or a liner. The highlight of the contouring offerings is Shade and Illuminate, a duo of creamy pigments that add definition and highlights. And as for skincare, he’s devised two cleansers, two moisturizers, an eye cream, a serum, and an Illuminating Protective Primer with SPF 32. Known for his fragrances, Ford has also created two new scents: Santal Blush, a sheer sandalwood eau meant to represent the line’s nude tones, and Jasmine Rouge, a red-bottled homage to the white flower that speaks to the collection’s richer tones. The designer was in New York to present the line at Bergdorf Goodman’s newly erected Tom Ford Beauty counter, which is where we had the pleasure of catching up with him. Here, he talks favorites and why the next beauty frontier just might be makeup for men.

FNO, The Beauty Edition

Roger Vivier

What: We told you about Inès de la Fresange’s new fragrance collection for Roger Vivier back in July, and while the scents won’t officially launch until October, the RV Boutique on Madison will be previewing all five of them tonight, while hosts like Leighton Meester and Coco Brandolini sip Champagne and toss back a canapé or two.

When: 6 to 11 p.m.

Where: 750 Madison Ave. at 65th street, NYC

Revlon at Rag & Bone

What: The makeup giant’s global artistic director, Gucci Westman, will be taking up residence at husband and Rag & Bone designer David Neville’s Mercer Street storefront with Revlon’s brand ambassador Holly Berry in tow. Ping-pong, burgers, and mini-makeovers will abound, as will Westman’s new ColourBurst Lipstick in Fashion’s Night Pout (cle-ver), a creamy nude that will not be sold in stores but will be doled out to anyone who makes a purchase or donates to Berry’s Jenesse Center Foundation.

Chanel Goes Khaki for FNO

Fashion’s Night Out is still two and a half weeks away, but there are certain beauty happenings on that night’s calendar that already have us pretty excited. Frédéric Fekkai stylists will be on hand at Henri Bendel to treat your tresses to one of five different Marchesa runway looks; Jade Jagger will be making an appearance at Saks’ Guerlain counter to debut her new Guerlain Shalimar bottle in person; and if you’re feeling like a little musical interlude, Sean Lennon and Maybelline spokesmodel Charlotte Kemp Muhl will be providing live tunes at Maybelline’s mobile hot spot in the Meatpacking District while makeup artists work some makeover magic on anyone who stops by. The one thing that truly has us counting down the days is nail-related (obviously) and pretty next-level, if we do say so ourselves: Peter Philips has created a limited-edition set of khaki-colored nail lacquers that will debut in New York at Chanel stores on Fashion’s Night Out. Khaki Brun is an earthy gray-brown; Khaki Rose is a muted, dusty terra-cotta; and our personal favorite, Khaki Vert, is a mossy green that just may be this fall’s answer to October ’09′s smash hit Jade. A little heads-up to leave your fingers un-manicured on September 10 so you can get properly suited up for the shows.

Rihanna Says Tomato, We Say Good Call

Last night, as the city opened its doors to fashion lovers of all walks of life, we noticed a point of commonality among the celebrities, designers, models, and general public who took to the streets. That would be the red lip. We wore one, and half the editors we ran into were wearing one, as were many of the shopgirls we encountered along the way. Rihanna possibly wore it best, though, choosing an orange-y tomato shade to hobnob with Giuseppe Zanotti at his Madison Avenue boutique, where she helped stimulate consumerism by drawing a serious crowd outside (countless pairs of shoes were no doubt sold only moments later). Thoughts on the color and the blue shimmer accents on her eyes?
