Mariah’s Sleek Makeover

-------

Mariah Carey was in town yesterday to promote her new fragrance Forever at Macy’s in Herald Square, and while we’re always excited to see her (no one hits the high notes like Mimi), we felt a bit of longing for the days of old. Her perfect peachy-cheeked complexion, glossy lips, and super-straight blow-out made us nostalgic for the early nineties, when she kept her hair curly, her brows bushy, and frequently sported long-sleeved mock-turtleneck midriffs and high-waisted jeans. (Swoon.) Which Mariah incarnation are you partial to?

Avril Lavigne, For Your Spritzing Pleasure

-------

The latest celebrity to lend her name and style sensibilities to a fragrance is pop star and (very) fleeting Karl Lagerfeld muse Avril Lavigne. In a pre-taped video message she prepared for a group of editors yesterday, Lavigne shared an inspirational message for would-be spritzers of Black Star, her new pear, black plum, hibiscus, and dark chocolate eau: “Embrace your own uniqueness and be your own star.” We can’t help but notice, however, that she seems to be embracing Thierry Mugler’s uniqueness, channeling his Angel for not only its gourmand notes but also its five-pointed flacon (the removable dog-collar ring/pendant around the neck of the bottle is all her own). But since mimicry is the highest form of flattery, we’ll just call it an homage. For those of you who like a more opulent composition in your celebrity fragrance offerings, Mariah Carey’s tuberose, gardenia, and musk scent, Forever, launches next month.
