Freida Pinto, “Worth It”

Rumors swirled in Milan during the Fall shows that Freida Pinto was being courted by Estée Lauder, but it looks like a rival company has swooped in and claimed the Indian beauty for its own. L’Oréal Paris has just announced that Pinto and Lost‘s Evangeline Lily will join Elizabeth Banks as the newest poster girls for the French brand. When we first reported on the beauty industry’s interest in Pinto, we were on the fence as to whether or not her post-Slumdog insta-fame was a bit premature. Now, with her beauty icon status confirmed, we’re eager to see how those acting chops hold up. She’s currently shooting a movie with Julian Schnabel and will be spending plenty of time with Woody Allen when production on his next film begins this summer. Thoughts on her trajectory thus far?

In these tough times, cutting corners from your wardrobe to your maquillage is practically de rigueur. We asked some notoriously beautiful girls how they skimp in the primping department.

“Times are hard but I believe less is more. Concealer is the essential element. I swear by Vichy’s Dermablend. It’s very skin friendly. If I want to add to this I use mascara (Chanel) and lip gloss. My favorite color is Tangerine Jet by Dior.”

“Hands down value for your money is Rosebud Lip Balm at Sephora. It’s just this one product that softens your cuticles, cures baby rash, and glosses up your lips. Cheap mascaras like Maybelline work better for me. The ones that charge more seem to clot. It’s crazy but true!”

Milla Jovovich, at Roberto Cavalli’s dinner:

“Your big investment must always be on skincare. It’s just something I believe you can’t skip on. I swear by the Swiss brand Cellcosment.”

Freida Pinto: Beauty Icon?

If Freida Pinto’s cameo front-row at Dolce & Gabbana yesterday is any indication, the actress is being wholeheartedly embraced by the fashion world. But the beauty community is staking its claim, too; the Slumdog Millionaire star is rumored to be in talks with Estée Lauder to become a spokesperson for the brand. Details have yet to be confirmed, but her contract would no doubt be sizable, which begs the question: Is her newfound It girl status warranted or is this a case of too much too soon?
