Child’s Play With Daisy Lowe

What to focus on in this pic of Daisy Lowe at the 135th anniversary of the Criterion restaurant in London last night? At first glance, you’re drawn to her literal take on this season’s it’s-OK-to-show-your-underwear-through-your-outerwear trend (which mum Pearl also engaged in), but then there’s her brick red lip and, yes, Pippi Longstocking braids. It’s been a while since we’ve run our “never too old for pigtails?” segment on this blog, but hey, when opportunity knocks, we’ve got to answer it. Discuss.

Beauty Booty: Free And Fierce Makeovers

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano’s limited-edition makeup collection for Victoria’s Secret debuts this week. To celebrate the momentous occasion, the design phenom and former makeup artist will be meeting and greeting fans while his artistry team performs personalized free makeovers. Call (866) 842-8674 to book your appointment.

When: Saturday, August 15, 12 to 3 p.m.

Where: Victoria’s Secret at Herald Square, 1328 Broadway, at 34th Street, NYC

Why: Victoria’s Secret is also celebrating the launch of VS Makeup, the evolution of its existing Very Sexy Makeup line, and purchasing two or more items from the collection scores you a signature cosmetic case with four deluxe fragrance samples (the Airbrush FX Face Primer is a personal fave). And because watching Siriano try to come up with new ways to use the term “tranny” as an adjective never gets old.

Megan Fox Gives “Helmet Head” A Good Name

In the sea of Disney teen queens parading down the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards last night, it was hard to miss Megan Fox. As if the Transformers star’s slicked-back raven locks cascading into a row of waves down the open back of her Dolce minidress wasn’t enough to draw the eye, she went with minimal makeup, using just a few coats of mascara and a bright orange lip to showcase her perfect, she’s-only-23-years-old skin. Sadly there was no “total knockout” award at the ceremony last night, but had there been, she would have gone home a winner. Anyone else want to weigh in on the look?

Bryce Dallas Howard Goes Glam

We’ll admit to thoroughly enjoying Terminator 2 (the best in the franchise, as far as we’re concerned), which is why we agreed to a 12:50 a.m. screening of Terminator Salvation when it opened last weekend. We were marginally disappointed with the early-morning event (cool crashes and explosion scenes, less intriguing story line and acting) and surprised to see Bryce Dallas Howard cast in the film, as we don’t typically associate her with big Hollywood productions, even with that Spider-Man 3 credit. But at last night’s Paris screening of the film, she looked every bit the leading lady, pulling out all the glamour stops on the red carpet from perfectly powdered alabaster skin, filled-in brows, and a precise, glossy red lip to an intriguing, slicked-back diagonal part. Richie Cunningham’s daughter is indeed all grown up. Thoughts on the look?

Lady Gaga Sizzles For Summer

Rolling Stone just put out its Hot List for 2009, and Lady Gaga not only made the cut this go-round but also got the cover of the issue. The new princess of pop was fittingly styled in a bubble dress, a Diana Ross-caliber tease job, and a makeup look that screamed “silent-film star,” with a pink Cupid’s bow pout and heavily lined bedroom eyes with lots of lashes. Two words: into it. As much as we love the “Poker Face” singer’s blunt bangs and cropped bob, we hope this shoot will beget more elaborate beauty looks in the future. You?
