Diehard Kate Spade fans may recall her first fragrance, which bowed in 2002 and has remained the company’s sole beauty offering since. Much like Mrs. Spade herself, the eponymous eau is no longer a major presence within the brand, which is what prompted the company’s current creative director, Deborah Lloyd, to introduce Twirl. “It’s the new Kate Spade vs. the heritage,” Lloyd said of her sweet magnolia, pink watermelon, blackberry, and orange blossom fragrance over cocktails and dinner at Tribeca’s Plein Sud last night. “Kate left such a good DNA and my world is taking it forward and bringing in modernity. The fragrance brings everything together.” VIPs like Alexis Bledel and Jessica Szohr were on hand for sniff tests. “I like anything fresh and light—that you can smell but isn’t too much,” Szohr said of her fragrance preferences. (As for her makeup of choice, the oft smoky-eyed Gossip Girl revealed a love for NARS eyeliners and Burberry Cosmetics’ new bronzer, both of which she will likely be wearing this week when she stops by shows like Rag & Bone, Chris Benz, and Marchesa). 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden chimed in, “I like anything that makes me smell like a sugar cookie.” Twirl’s French macaroon bottom note should suit her just fine.
Jessica Szhor opted for a matte red pout at Malibu Rum’s First Day of Summer Kick-Off party last night—a natural choice for the olive-complexioned Gossip Girl. The two plaits on the top of her head that rose up into subdued, amphibious-looking fins, à la Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2010 show—those were more of a surprise. We think they’re a fun take on summer’s ubiquitous braiding techniques, what about you?
The only way to compete with Blake Lively’s long, golden waves: hair extensions! The Gossip Girl‘s co-stars Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr are rarely seen without them, so it was a surprise to spot the latter going au naturel last night at a special screening of Youth in Revolt in New York. The glam factor was definitely kicked down a few notches, but we imagine it must’ve felt pretty good for Szohr to get that extra weight off her shoulders. Which style do you think better suits her?
Attention Upper East Siders—especially Blake Lively and Leighton Meester: There’s a new Queen B in town. That would be Jessica Szohr, a.k.a. Gossip Girl‘s Vanessa, and her set of ultra outrageous (and natural looking!) hair extensions. Spotted last night at both the Juicy Couture flagship store opening on Fifth Avenue and Lucky magazine’s 5th annual “Lucky Shops” event, the CW star pretty much surpassed her co-stars in otherworldliness, with a zigzag part and what was likely a 1″ curling iron. We’re assuming that you’re all in agreement with our OMFG sentiments, although there’s always room for dissenting opinions. Still a Serena fan? A backer of Blair? A proponent of a shorter-haired Vanessa? Divulge. xoxo.
