When launching a beauty brand that focuses on enhancing natural beauty, it doesn’t hurt to be naturally gorgeous yourself. So when former model Christina Zilber debuted Jouer Cosmetics in 2004, she had a little bit of a leg up—although that didn’t stop her from going the extra mile when it came to innovation. Zilber’s line of blushes, eye shadows, pressed powders, and the like featured a unique packaging concept with a snap system that enabled users to lock together their favorite products in a Lego-like formation, creating a connectable custom palette. Next came advances in body care and skincare (we’re big fans of her Luminizing Moisture Tint) that furthered Zilber’s practical yet elegant aesthetic, which also happens to extend to all facets of her life. Here, the L.A.-based mother and makeup guru shares some of her favorite beauty haunts, shopping destinations, and the best place to grab a fresh juice in the City of Angels.
The Makeup Must-Have: Jouer Lip Sheers
“I’m always testing several Jouer products in development. I can’t reveal all that we have in the works, but I currently love our new Lip Sheers. They offer beautiful sheer color and SPF protection—look out for them in summer 2013! I also love the fragrance in the products. Jouer’s signature scent is a mix of gardenia, jasmine, and honeysuckle. People stop me on the street to ask what I’m wearing!”

The Juice for a Generation: Kreation in Beverly Hills
“Their Green Power Smoothie is filling and delicious. It’s loaded with energizing nutrients and plant-based protein—almond butter, chia seeds, probiotics, etcetera. I’m constantly on the go and this provides me with the fuel I need to get through the day.”

The Girl’s Getaway: Cal-a-Vie
“My ultimate beauty getaway is three days at Cal-a-Vie in San Diego. Everything from the morning hikes to the gourmet spa food to the unparalleled treatments leaves you feeling pampered and rejuvenated.”

With shopping season in full swing, we’re finding it difficult to pay attention to ourselves. Nail, face, and hair maintenance are falling by the wayside as our spare time is devoted to picking out yet another scented candle or fragrance for extraneous family members. Which is why we’re so excited about a new holiday service at Topshop. For one week beginning Monday, December 14, you can hit up the dressing room at the Broadway flagship to have your tresses refreshed with John Frieda products, your nails polished with M2M lacquers, or your makeup touched up by a Jouer Cosmetics specialist—all while you peruse the racks for a floral body-con number (all right, we haven’t completely forgotten about ourselves). All services are free of charge and there will be complimentary beverages as well as magazines to flip through, so you get the full “me time” experience.
Topshop ground floor, 478 Broadway at Broome St., NYC.
Fans of Jouer Cosmetics and those of you who may enjoy a free beauty product here and there should add a trip to Henri Bendel to your weekend plans. Summer Essentials sets from the colorful line will be handed out with the purchase of three items or more through Sunday, so you can pocket a travel-size blending brush, a tube of the brand’s best-selling Lip Enhancer, and a Lip & Cheek Stain in the shade of your choice—in addition to your other product picks—without feeling gluttonous. The promotion is actually going on right now, so if you are so inclined to take a trudge down Fifth Avenue’s steadily rising waterway, you’ll be handsomely rewarded.
