MCMC Makes a Keeper

-------

Brooklyn-based perfumer Anne McClain believes every fragrance should tell a story. Since graduating with honors from the prestigious Grasse Institute of Perfumery, she’s set out to chronicle her own scent memories with her two-year-old niche fragrance line MCMC. McClain crafted Hunter, a warming blend of tobacco absolute, organic Bourbon vanilla, and balsam fir, as an homage to her outdoorsy childhood best friend. Maine, a sun- and sea-drenched mix of clary sage, French seaweed, and Bulgarian rose absolute, recalls a summer of love spent on the island of North Haven off the state’s pristine coastline. And Garden, with essential oils like red thyme, lavender, myrtle, and bitter orange, is inspired by the Ananda Harvest, an urban farmers’ collective based in upstate New York. With Valentine’s Day approaching, McClain has turned her attention to that most romantic of blooms: the rose. Kept, which she designed as an “ode to oneself,” surrounds its star, the luscious red rose, with spicier notes of black tea, clove, leather, and amber, for a scent that’s romantic, but in an unexpected way. It’s unisex, too, which makes it a great V-Day gift that you and your beloved can share.
