Treat Yo’ Self

vintage-Glamour-imageFew know the origins of Labor Day (myself included). I’ve always viewed it as my last chance to store up energy, and sleep, before New York fashion week. The holiday actually began in 1894 as a way to appease union members after the Pullman Strike (i.e., factory workers took issue with the Pullman Company, which built the majority of freight and passenger cars in the U.S., and effectively shut down railroad traffic west of Detroit), a cause that one could say is slightly more noble than beauty rest—though I’ll just agree to disagree on that one. In order to hit the ground running next week, the Beauty Counter blog will also be taking a sabbatical—albeit a brief one—on Monday. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with our latest feature on tattoos (in case you need inspiration to get inked over the weekend) and some solid Labor Day advice inspired by this image from Glamour magazine’s July 1955 issue: Eat ice cream like it’s your job—because you’ll most certainly work it off as you dash between shows all of next month.
