After I board a plane, I feel lucky if I manage to remove my makeup with a wipe before I pass out into a Unisom-induced slumber, typically wedged up against the side of the aircraft. But if you’re Lady Gaga, however, you do a complete in-flight outfit switch and hair change. She departed LAX with Donatella Versace-like blond strands and arrived at Narita in Tokyo with a throwback bob (reminiscent of a put-together Pan Am stewardess). While a team of hairstylists and makeup artists isn’t available to the majority of us who fly commercial, there is one thing we can all take away from her makeover at 35,000 feet: Sport sunglasses to cover up bleary eyes and mascara smudges. As for your hair, may I suggest a hat…or if you’re prepping for the paps or just feeling ambitious, a wig à la Gaga.
Coco has a crop, Lady Gaga is wearing Queen Bey’s waves, and now Kelly Osbourne has a new set of fringe (which she debuted only a few hours ago on Instagram). We’re reminded of that moment in Legally Blonde, in which Elle’s friend Serena proudly proclaims, “I got bangs! My hair is so now!”
Oxygen has plans to launch a competition show, Nailed It!, in which contestants will go head-to-head (or rather, hand-to-hand) in an attempt to win the title of ultimate nail artist. We think a great challenge would be to re-create Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling using all ten tips as a canvas. Network execs, take note. [Variety]
Katy Perry owns the throne and sheds a powdered wig for her latest fragrance, Killer Queen. Check out the thirty-second video clip on The Cut.
We discussed the nose ring on Daria’s cover of Paris Vogue earlier this summer, but her wavy, windswept hair wasn’t too shabby either. Now actress Rebecca Hall is rocking the model’s look on the red carpet. [Byrdie]
News flash: We found Beyoncé’s blonde mermaid waves. She might have sheared them off in favor of the cropped cut that lasted about a millisecond in the fast-paced world of social media, and then magically reappeared with a slightly longer bob days later. But in case you were wondering where those long locks went, you can find them on none other than Lady Gaga, who was spotted wearing oddly similar-looking chest-grazing strands yesterday, outside her hotel in Soho. Bey, if you’re still on the hunt for your hair, consider the mystery solved. You’re welcome.
An Interior Designer Captures Iconic Hair Moments in Clay; Gaga Gets a Rainbow Brite Makeover; and More
From fly-girl hair to a Vanilla Ice-inspired fade, interior designer and potter Jonathan Adler pays homage to his favorite styles with his Utopia line of reversible coffee cups. You could opt for the mullet mug, which is all business [man] in front and party [girl] in the back, or the infamous Flock of Seagulls forehead fluff on one side and New Wave ‘do on the other. No matter which way you sip it, getting your morning jolt of caffeine is now a hair-raising experience. [JonathanAdler.com]
The Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, wondered what would happen if Grace Coddington sported Anna Wintour’s signature bob, and the Vogue EIC sat front-row as a ginger. We can only imagine that the fashion world would be turned on its head. [ManRepeller.com]
Lady Gaga stepped out in L.A. yesterday wearing colorful face paint (reminiscent of her first single cover for upcoming album Artpop) and sporting dark, slicked-back hair. To us, it looks like the muse for her latest look might be the late Heath Ledger as the Joker in The Dark Knight. [The Cut]
Not only did Victoria Beckham reveal to Vogue Australia that she gets the jitters when presenting a new collection, but she’d also rather tend to her arches than hit the town in one of her signature body-con dresses. “Honestly, once the children are in bed, I’d rather work or shove on a face pack and pluck my eyebrows. By the time Brooklyn’s finally gone to bed, it’s all I’m fit for,” she told the glossy. [Grazia.Daily.Co.UK]
Lady Gaga has been keeping a low profile over the past few months (she has been recovering from hip surgery and self-imposed a ban on Twitter back in June). But with a new album, Artpop, on the way, she was back to her over-the-top ways this week and was papped wearing two bombshell-worthy wigs—blond for a dinner in Beverly Hills and brunette for a stroll in New York City. We’re confident Gaga will continue to up the ante with her beauty looks as she closes in on the release of her new single in August. Do you prefer the singer with platinum or chocolate-brown tresses?
