Into The Blue

-------

Leigh-Lezark-HOH-NailsSince adopting a strictly neutral-or-classic-color manicure mandate a few seasons ago, we effectively left our trendy-lacquer days behind us. But there was a time, dear readers, when we spearheaded hand designs, relished in glitter Calgels, and used every last drop of Chanel’s cult-favorite Jade—not to mention the house’s former creative director of makeup Peter Philips’ lesser-known, albeit equally lust-worthy, follow-up, Riva. It debuted at Karl Lagerfeld’s 2010 Cruise collection in Saint-Tropez and immediately became an obsession when we saw Georgia May Jagger and co. walking down the runway, their tips a shade of creamy robin’s egg that somehow broke the pastel-aqua mold. It was a limited edition, sadly, but we’ve often thought about it in summers since—newfound minimal mantra not withstanding—as it truly was the perfect complement to warm, tanned limbs. That’s why Leigh Lezark’s azure fingers at Henry Holland’s Resort dinner last night in New York struck a chord with us—especially considering our recent discovery of RGB Cosmetics’ new sky-hued varnish called Pool. Needless to say, the combination is giving us some surprisingly colorful ideas for our weekend nail-salon plans. You, too?

Leigh Lezark, the Latest Blonde

-------

Celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham told us back in December that she thought we’d be seeing an unusual amount of blonde hair transformations as winter trudged on, and so far, she’s been right on the money. After A-listers like Natalie Portman and Emily Blunt went flaxen for roles, the Russian street-style set promptly followed suit, debuting icy platinum strands at the couture shows. But we never thought we’d see the day that Leigh Lezark left the dark side. The Misshapes DJ and longtime Chanel muse’s angular raven bob was part of an enduring mystique that has long captivated the fashion industry. At last night’s Shopbop and Mugler event in New York celebrating Nicola Formichetti’s exclusive Muglerette graffiti bag, though, Lezark officially went back to her honey-gold roots (she’s a natural blonde). That porcelain skin and those steely camera gazes? Still perfectly intact. Thoughts on her drastic dye job?

Pretty in Punk, Backstage At Topshop Unique

-------

Topshop Unique’s girl is effortlessly cool and understatedly chic—a profile that was made infinitely clear with a quick peruse of the show’s front row. Next to Elle Fanning sat Leigh Lezark, who was a stone’s throw away from Poppy Delevingne, Pixie Geldof, Tallulah Harlech, and Olivia Palermo. “She’s the girl that everyone wants to be,” hairstylist Anthony Turner confirmed backstage, where the It-ness of it all was reinforced with a gaggle of the season’s biggest catwalkers. Cara, Jourdan, et al. got Turner’s low side parts, which were tucked behind the ears and treated with L’Oréal Beach Frizz for a shine-free, matte texture. “It’s the day after the night before,” he explained, throwing in a “nineties Kate Moss” reference as well as the words “very cool” to describe strands, thus completing the season’s hair inspiration trifecta. As models lined up before the show, Turner roughed up the hairline and broke up sections in the back, creating a randomness to the otherwise uniform coifs.

“It’s nineties grunge meets punk,” makeup artist Hannah Murray further elaborated, giving a “pretty edge” to designer Kate Phelan’s white and pale yellow palette. Mixing two Topshop Makeup Blushes in Prime Time and Flush, Murray made a makeshift, rosy eye shadow, which she dabbed with the silvery shade from its Eyeshadow Palette in Constellation to give lids a sheer iridescence. Cheeks were contoured using Topshop Lips in Beguiled, a vampish dark red that was layered with a dollop of its Balm for a dewy finish. To ensure the girls didn’t look “too done,” Murray took mouths down with a finger-patting of foundation while manicurist Anatole Rainey reprised Spring’s “nothing nail” with Topshop Nails in Nice & Neutral.

Primping News From The Party Circuit

-------

Party-hopping between the Gordon Parks Foundation annual charity dinner and the launch of YSL’s new men’s fragrance, L’Homme Libre, last night, we gleaned a few beauty scoops: Leigh Lezark has bangs, Abbey Lee Kershaw has added a pink strand to her otherwise platinum locks, and Iman is launching a new signature scent. “In between some vacationing upstate this summer, I am working on my fragrance for Iman Cosmetics,” Mrs. David Bowie told us. “I’m not so sure yet about all of the details, but it’s definitely going to be floral.” As far as olfactory inspiration goes, Iman is torn. “For years and years, I have always loved the Fracas perfume. It’s my favorite. But then I started to like Tom Ford scents, so now I don’t know.” If she manages to combine just the right amount of the former’s classic, tuberose-heavy juice with the latter’s overt sex appeal, she could have a winner on her hands. Stay tuned.

Leigh Lezark Lightens Up

-------

Yup, that’s Leigh Lezark at left, but we can understand your confusion. Gone is her signature severe, side-parted bob, and in its place, long soft waves—with an almost recognizable pink cheek and a beautiful rosy lip. It was definitely a much girlier side of the MisShapes frontwoman than we’re used to seeing front row at Chanel, but Lezark was pulling it off at Karl Lagerfeld’s extravaganza this morning and showing some love for Peter Philips’ new Rouge Coco lipstick collection in the process (the shade she’s wearing is called Cambon)—good form for the Chanel brand ambassador. What do you think about her departure from the dark side?
