Leighton Meester has had a big beauty year. The Gossip Girl not only nabbed an Herbal Essences spokesperson gig but also was recently shot by Carter Smith for Vera Wang’s upcoming women’s fragrance. She killed it on the Country Strong red carpet last night—somebody get this girl a makeup contract stat! Sporting a multi-colored Dior minidress, Meester chose a light pink cream blush and a highly glossy red lipstick for the occasion, which happens to look a lot like our crimson bullet of choice, Dior Rouge in Fiery—a discontinued shade that’s been reimagined as Rouge Dior in Blazing. Also of note is her gold pedicure, a festive, albeit muted color that’s really the only shade she could have worn with those mega Pierre Hardy wedges (anyone who thought those shoes were meant only for marveling at but not for wearing stood corrected last night). Gwyneth, eat your heart out. What do you think about her look?
First came news of Leighton Meester’s new fragrance contract with Vera Wang; now come pictures from the campaign shoot. By the looks of it, “glamour puss” is being considered as a potential name for the perfume. [Just Jared]
James Franco is generating some early Oscar buzz for his portrayal of climber Aron Ralston in 127 Hours, but word on the street is that director Danny Boyle almost didn’t cast him because he thought Franco’s hair was too fluffy. Too fluffy? That mop top is a good 50 percent of the reason we’re buying tickets to that flick in the first place. [Music Rooms]
So how did Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima get her post-baby body back into runway-ready shape for the lingerie brand’s big show on Wednesday? Hard work. “I started with a liquid detox and then, after I did only protein,” she says of her nutritionist-prescribed regimen, which also includes an hour and a half of boxing and jumping rope every day. Lima does cheat with a little candy every now and again, though. “I need the energy!” she says. [Fit Sugar]

One celebrity who may not be getting a beauty deal anytime soon is Naomi Campbell. Her former agent is claiming that the supermodel lied under oath about backing out of a previous perfume deal before stiffing said agent on commissions. Three words: bad for business. [The Cut via NYP]

There’s another new beauty reality show in the works: Mistress Makeover doles out boob jobs and the like to the women implicated in B-list celebrities’ salacious affairs (yes, two of the show’s “stars” allegedly have ties to Tiger Woods). Gross. [BlackBook]
The BBC has been accused of ageism. Well, that’s what you get when you recommend that your TV presenters get Botox to stay one step ahead of HD cameras. [Daily Mail]
As Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf, Leighton Meester is a bad-girl brunette. But as international ambassador for Herbal Essences, the actress/singer is playing a new role: dirty blonde. Meester, whose hair is naturally flaxen, dyes it for the hit CW series, but at a photo call to fête her new spokesperson deal in Madrid, she was looking decidedly less devious sporting a honey-colored side part and loose waves. What say you: better off dark and brooding, or is blonder the better course?
Raquel Welch has a new book out about her life that details what it’s like to be an aging sex symbol. In Raquel: Beyond the Cleavage (genius title), the 69-year-old Welch discusses her diet and fitness regimen, which includes a ton of yoga; abstaining from salt, sugar, and caffeine; and never eating after 6 p.m. She also says that plastic surgery is a last resort. Botox, however, is another story. [Reuters]
Beauty bloggers the world over have been all abuzz about today’s news that Leighton Meester has a new gig as global ambassador for Herbal Essences. Meester, who is actually a natural blonde, will appear in print ads, etc., later this year. Blake Lively is no doubt in talks with a rival haircare brand as we speak. [WWD]
Beauty school dropouts looking to get back into the biz might be interested to know that Dermalogica has just opened a brand-new undergraduate academy in Manhattan. New York’s beauty fiends might be more interested to know that the LEED-certified trade school has a 10-bed treatment room where student-administered facials are a wee $50. [WWD]
Talk of mass vitamin D deficiencies from years of SPF use are creating a riff within the medical community—but it hasn’t stopped sunscreen makers from capitalizing on the hype. A new crop of vitamin D-enriched SPF lotions and sprays are starting to hit shelves, although whether or not the nutrient can penetrate deep down into the skin when applied topically is up for serious debate. We’ll stick to diet supplements and a little bit of (controlled) sun exposure until this one gets worked out. [CBS]
