B’s Summer Daze

In anticipation of her forthcoming fourth solo album, aptly titled 4, Beyoncé Knowles is making the editorial rounds. B graces the pages of the July issues of W, L’Uomo Vogue, Essence, and Cleo magazines, just to name a few, but her turn as cover star for the new Dazed & Confused just may be our favorite. Whether or not the R&B superstar has ever actually experienced trailer park life firsthand, that slice of Americana serves as the setting for photographer Sharif Hamza’s spread in the British glossy—and we are into it. The down-and-out backdrop inspires some seriously glam ensembles, which were custom-made for the rooty-blonde phenom by the likes of Haider Ackermann and Riccardo Tisci. Even more eye-catching is the beauty. “I wanted to create a sultry, colorful summer look,” makeup artist Francesca Tolot says of the shoot, in which Mrs. Jay-Z holds a portable fan in her Minx by Lisa Lopez-bedazzled fingers to beat the heat. Tolot built up B’s sleepy, aqua eyes with a Christian Dior 5-color eye shadow palette, using L’Oréal black eye pencil and its 1,000 Lashes mascara to carve out some drama. For that icy pink pout, she mixed Dior lipstick in Mysterious #786 with MAC in Syss. Here’s the kicker: Tolot used no (none, zero) foundation on Knowles’ honey-hued limbs. Just a little baby oil on her arms, chest, and legs to add a bit of sheen. Only Sasha Fierce can make gritty look this chic.

Milla Gives Cannes Some Lip

Milla Jovovich and her amfAR Versace gown got prime placement in our “Best of Cannes” slideshow, but her bold lip color choices over the past week deserve a shout-out, too. The L’Oréal spokesmodel ventured into both deep scarlet and light fuchsia territory, with her eyes heavily lined in black pigment and her chin-grazing bob fashioned into a charming seventies-era side-sweep. We’re partial to Milla in crimson, but let us know below if you’d like to mount a case for pink.

Gwen Paints It Pink

Why Gwen Stefani was on the red carpet at last night’s highly anticipated Tree of Life premiere in Cannes—Terrence Malick’s movie starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and up-and-comer Jessica Chastain—remains unclear. What is apparent, however, is that she made a conscious decision to go for it with her hair and makeup. The hollaback girl channeled Jean Harlow in a major way with a deep side part and tightly curled marcel waves before scrawling on heavy black eyeliner and noticeably forgoing her signature red pout in favor of—get this—hot pink. Assuming that Gwen truly swears by L’Oréal Infallible Le Rouge lipstick, “the color that grabs hold and doesn’t let go” (she’s currently fronting the ads), we’re going to guess that she slicked on a couple of coats of its Perennial Pink for last night’s event. She certainly stood out among the tamer beauty looks Zoe Saldana and Angelina Jolie were working. (Attention, Angelina: That matte red lip you rocked at Cannes two years ago is still burned into our brain. More of that, please.) What do you think of the new Gwen?

Aerin Lauder’s New Gig In Detail; Behold, The Blood Type Fragrance; And More…

Estée Lauder global ambassador, brand spokesperson, and style and image director Aerin Lauder is set to launch her own brand for the company, simply called Aerin. Encompassing fragrance and color cosmetics­—the family’s specialty—Aerin will also come to include accessories and home accessories. “I had a dream of doing this as I was growing up,” Lauder says. “I am taking the chance to follow my dream.” [WWD]

Beauty has been quantified. According to a new study from economists at the University of Texas at Austin, being good-looking leads to more money and ultimately more happiness. [MSN]

Wanna know how beauty spokesperson Freida Pinto keeps her gorgeous caramel complexion so clear? Loads of L’Oréal cleansers and creams, obviously. Her other secret: fresh vegetable juices with coriander or pepper for spice. “The concoction makes my skin glow and is good for the digestive system too.” [Daily Record]

You’ve heard of the blood type diet; now, we bring you the blood type fragrance. Blood Concept launches this year with four unisex scents that feature metallic notes and the “actual smell of blood.” O is composed of thyme and raspberry; A includes notes of green garden, tomato leaves, and basil; B is more woody and spicy; and AB is a mineral composition of aldehydes, aluminum, and cedar wood.
