Celia Birtwell X Uniqlo: The Tip Strips

-------

I know it’s almost sacrilege to say so in today’s manicure-centric world, but I’m slightly exhausted by nail stickers. Sure, they were innovative when Minx first came up with the idea of thin films that fit perfectly on the nail bed and were as easy to apply as they were to remove, but it seems as though they’re everywhere now, making the whole concept of wearing them far less novel. Still, there are a few pull-and-peel offerings that still excite me. One came last year by way of Nail Rock and Topshop, which collaborated with Meadham Kirchhoff to bring the childish prints from the label’s Spring 2012 show to the masses via pretty pastel strips, and another just crossed my desk. This month, Uniqlo released its collaboration with British textile designer Celia Birtwell, bringing the Ossie Clark co-conspirator’s famous prints to a series of shirts, tunics, culottes, tote bags—and yes, fingertips—courtesy of the nail-wrap manufacturer NailPatchMe. Not that you needed a reason to purchase two or more items from the collection, but if you do, these three mix-and-match patterns will be your gift with purchase. Available while supplies last, each looks just as good on its own, or worn as an accent finger with a plain old polish manicure.
