After the overwhelming success of last year’s Midnight in Paris, it appears as though Woody Allen is mining Europe’s greatest cities for inspiration. His next stop? Italy, where he has assembled a ragtag crew—including Alec Baldwin, Jesse Eisenberg, and Penélope Cruz—to shoot his latest flick, To Rome With Love. At a photo call for the film’s premiere this afternoon, Cruz wore an off-the-shoulder black dress and worked a ponytail better than we’ve ever seen one worked before. With every turn of the head, Cruz’ updo swung to and fro; each gesture, each laugh made it bounce this way or that as though it were a glossy accomplice to every dedicated movement. For those of you that are still not sold on the pony’s suitability with formalwear, we suggest you reconsider your position. Thoughts on the casual style’s big day out?
First came the nail polish line with O.P.I., then the scented dog tags at Wal-Mart, and now Justin Bieber is launching a proper women’s scent called Someday. Yes, there is a removable charm attached to the bottle. [WWD]
It looks like Jennifer Lawrence has pulled a Carey Mulligan. The once tawny-maned Winter’s Bone star has gone brunette for her latest role in the highly anticipated first film from the Hunger Games franchise. [The Hollywood Gossip]
Penélope Cruz is tired of people complaining about a smile line here or some crow’s feet there. “When I hear a woman who is in her early 30s is worrying about growing old, I just want to slap her. I just don’t like how women complain about growing old. When I’m 80, I want to look in the mirror and see an 80-year-old woman,” the Spanish stunner says. [Monsters & Critics]
“Decoration, architecture, and fashion” are what inspire Chantal Roos. The creative force has teamed up with Diane von Furstenberg to make the designer’s name as synonymous with beauty as it is with fashion, and it all starts happening in October, when DVF’s fragrance—the first in a series of launches—debuts. We’re visualizing a high-concept, wrap dress-inspired perfume flacon. [WWD]

The stars of the forthcoming Fellini-esque mega-musical Nine are a shockingly attractive bunch—even the original Italian bombshell herself, Sophia Loren, makes an appearance onscreen. When the bodacious cast (along with beauties like Madonna and the sisters Olsen) hit the red carpet last night for a special Chopard-sponsored screening in New York, they didn’t disappoint. In fact, three of the leading ladies—Kate Hudson, Penélope Cruz, and Marion Cotillard—seemed to be have adopted the same makeup formula: jet-black smoky eyes and flesh-toned glossy lips. What do you think of this beauty triumvirate?
Kate Hudson may be upping her Hollywood glamour cred by singing and dancing alongside Nicole Kidman and Penélope Cruz in her new movie, Nine—a huge departure from the string of rom-coms she’s devoted much of her time to since winning that Golden Globe for Almost Famous—but she’s bringing a touch of her laid-back, SoCal cool with her on the press junket. At the film’s world premiere in London last night, she sported a loose side braid across her forehead to complement a white strapless gown with a long bridal-style train. It’s not your typical red-carpet hairstyle, but then again, she’s not your typical red-carpet actress. Thoughts on the look?
