J’Adore Dior, Immortalized In Clay

-------

The beauty and art worlds collide with regularity—and the results are always memorable. Who can forget Dutch product and interiors designer Marcel Wanders’ first foray into makeup with MAC? Or the labels and bottles Kiehl’s has debuted from art stars like sculptor Jeff Koons and Kenny Scharf? While François Nars may have done them all one better this fall when he launched a capsule color collection with the Andy Warhol Foundation that turned actual Warhol paintings into eye shadow palettes, Parfums Christian Dior is looking to get in on the action with its own beauty-as-art project. Following the Tourbillon sculpture Constance Guisset created for the iconic house using the feminine curves of its J’Adore Dior fragrance as muse, the brand has enlisted New York-based ceramicist Peter Lane to come up with his own tribute to the flacon. Known for working within a remarkable architectural scale, Lane has interpreted the classic bottle’s silhouette in a model that stands approximately four-and-a-half-feet tall, with a pleated body and a gilded base and topper that have been covered entirely with 22-karat gold leaf. Lane was reportedly inspired by the famed eau’s commercial that features Charlize Theron sweeping through Versailles’ hall of mirrors. The piece will be on view beginning tomorrow, December 8, at Dior’s Avenue Montaigne boutique in Paris.
