These Beauty Looks Are Like M&M’s—We Can’t Stop at Just One

-------

Last night’s launch party for Choo.08 (a line of more practical, sporty footwear from Jimmy Choo) in Beverly Hills celebrated accessories, but there were also plenty of covetable beauty looks on display. Similar to shoe shopping, it’s hard to single out just one hairstyle or makeup move and label it my favorite, so I thought I’d feature all of the standout moments (like Solange Knowles’ tangerine liner, Sandra Choi’s buzzed crop, and Emmy Rossum’s inky eyes and inventive nail art) from the evening’s fete: Click here to see the slideshow.

Why a Meryl Streep x Frédéric Malle Fragrance Will Never Be; Special K: The Nail Polish; And More…

-------

Frédéric Malle isn’t much for celebrity fragrance. The perfume purveyor is much more interested in characters with “strong aesthetics,” like Dries Van Noten, with whom he has created a new signature scent that will be the first offering from his forthcoming collection range. Meryl Streep, he contends, does have a “Hermès quality about her. She’s a beautiful woman and a solid actress,” but the frequent Oscar winner isn’t fragrance material. “She doesn’t smell,” says Malle. “She’s Mrs. Thatcher one day and Julia Child the next. Meryl Streep can be anything. But basically we don’t know anything about her as a person.” [NYT]

Avon, it appears, is also looking for characters with strong aesthetics—or make that athletics. The brand has tapped L.A. Clippers guard, Chris Paul, to be the new face of its Untouchable men’s scent. [ESPN]

Nicole by OPI’s latest collaborative collection has nothing to do with movies or celebrities and everything to do with cereal. Yes, cereal. The lacquer line is creating three custom colors for Special K, which will debut next month. [OPI]

The latest trend in nails—other than breakfast-food-inspired varieties? Feather-finish polishes, according to London’s Nails Inc, which has tapped Brit It girl Poppy Delevingne to be the face of its newest adventure in texture. [Daily Mail]

The Ears Have It

-------

OK, OK. We know we’ve been harping on about hair accessories a lot recently, but there has been an abundance of love thrown at barrettes, berets, bows—and bunny ears of late, and it’s our journalistic duty to report on it. So, without further ado, another round of head adornment, for your reading pleasure—this time live from London. At last night’s Chanel: The Little Black Jacket private view party, Kristen McMenamy and Poppy Delevingne got crafty with different sets of animal ear hairbands, in cat and rabbit varieties, confirming that there’s always room for a little quirk with couture. In your humble opinion, who wins this style race: the tabby or the hare?

Pretty in Punk, Backstage At Topshop Unique

-------

Topshop Unique’s girl is effortlessly cool and understatedly chic—a profile that was made infinitely clear with a quick peruse of the show’s front row. Next to Elle Fanning sat Leigh Lezark, who was a stone’s throw away from Poppy Delevingne, Pixie Geldof, Tallulah Harlech, and Olivia Palermo. “She’s the girl that everyone wants to be,” hairstylist Anthony Turner confirmed backstage, where the It-ness of it all was reinforced with a gaggle of the season’s biggest catwalkers. Cara, Jourdan, et al. got Turner’s low side parts, which were tucked behind the ears and treated with L’Oréal Beach Frizz for a shine-free, matte texture. “It’s the day after the night before,” he explained, throwing in a “nineties Kate Moss” reference as well as the words “very cool” to describe strands, thus completing the season’s hair inspiration trifecta. As models lined up before the show, Turner roughed up the hairline and broke up sections in the back, creating a randomness to the otherwise uniform coifs.

“It’s nineties grunge meets punk,” makeup artist Hannah Murray further elaborated, giving a “pretty edge” to designer Kate Phelan’s white and pale yellow palette. Mixing two Topshop Makeup Blushes in Prime Time and Flush, Murray made a makeshift, rosy eye shadow, which she dabbed with the silvery shade from its Eyeshadow Palette in Constellation to give lids a sheer iridescence. Cheeks were contoured using Topshop Lips in Beguiled, a vampish dark red that was layered with a dollop of its Balm for a dewy finish. To ensure the girls didn’t look “too done,” Murray took mouths down with a finger-patting of foundation while manicurist Anatole Rainey reprised Spring’s “nothing nail” with Topshop Nails in Nice & Neutral.
