We’ll be taking a two-day mini break to enjoy family and support the economy. We hope you do the same. See you Monday—same time, same place.
Yes, there are twenty-six ways to wink. i-D celebrates all of them (and 33 years of their signature cover pose) in a video featuring everyone from Cara Delevingne to Rick Owens.
Taryn Manning of Orange Is the New Black arrived on the red carpet for the International Emmy Awards sporting platinum strands. It looks as if the brunette-to-blond
red-carpet epidemic is set to continue.
In other hair news, Rihanna’s doobie is still going strong. She hit Drake’s concert in L.A. last night wearing the same Dominican hair salon-inspired style she sported at the AMAs.
Teens are often masters of invention, and when given a bottle of nail-polish remover, the possibilities extend far beyond neatening a chipped manicure. Two 19-year-old roommates in Liverpool helped robbers clean dye-pack-splashed bills with this beauty product. [The Cut]
The “doobie” (no, not that kind of doobie) Rihanna wore to last night’s American Music Awards wave was strangely familiar. Initially, I racked my brain for past runway shows (finding it somewhat reminiscent of the look at Christian Dior’s Fall 2009 show), but it wasn’t until a friend schooled me in the hairstyle’s humble origins that I realized where I’d seen it before: the subway. Often crafted at Dominican hair salons, this technique prolongs a roller set and keeps bounce intact until the long pins are pulled out. And I’ve noticed many a woman on the train unintentionally rocking this sculptural look home from the hairdresser long before RiRi wore it on the red carpet. But if issue five of Style.com/Print is any indication, turning to the street for inspiration is never a bad idea.
Rihanna appears to have jumped on the bob bandwagon—joining recent short-hair converts like Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, and Jennifer Lawrence. While we’ve seen the star sport sleek and asymmetrical versions in the past, her new cut is reminiscent of the choppy wigs spotted this season at Fendi. [Instagram]
Elizabeth Arden appointed designer Shoshanna Gruss to Style Director—the first ever for the beauty brand. In addition to Twitter chats and a Polyvore contest, you’ll start seeing the fruits of her labor next fall when a cosmetic bag collection (sold as a gift with purchase) hits counters.
L’Oréal Professionel is going streaking. The company is launching eight shades of liquid-to-powder hair chalk in March of 2014. [WWD]
Scent layering started long before Jo Malone—in the Middle East, it’s customary to offer guests a tray of perfumes post-dinner. So much better than a mint. [Elle.com]

The Model: Alina
The Moment: Talonlike Tips
The Motivation: Just like fashion, manicure trends, too, are cyclical. And while nail art has finally started to make its descent from stardom, it seems that the slim, pointed shape of the sixties and seventies is back. From Rihanna’s crimson claws to Daria Werbowy’s latest Céline ads (where she sports bloodred tips), all signs point to a this extra-long—and almost lethal—length.
