A Stark Difference

Some of our favorite product discoveries have come via recommendations from the beauty gurus we trust most. Our introduction to the sweetly scented elixir that is Je Veux hair oil? Courtesy of our longtime stylist Michelle Fiona (formerly of New York’s Whittemore House and now, sniff sniff, at San Francisco’s Harper Paige salon); facialist extraordinaire Joanna Vargas turned us on to the plethora of supremely gentle skincare wonders produced by Eminence Organics; and our latest beauty fix comes thanks to green makeup artist Kristen Arnett, who, very kindly, hooked us up with a package from Goodebox (a sampling site focused only on eco-brands), which happened to contain treats from Stark Skincare. We immediately fell for the petite collection comprising four products, including a balm, tonic, oil, and mask (a lip treatment is reportedly on the way) for its cool tinted apothecary glass packaging adorned with simple, wispy illustrations. Shortly thereafter, we became enamored with the highly effective, pared-down formulas. The Grapefruit Cleanse + Hydrate Balm makes an incredibly gentle nighttime cleanser (rub a dollop in your palm, massage it into the face, and then gently dab off with a warm washcloth and splash with cold water), and the Green Tea Detox Clay Mask—which comes as a powder meant to be mixed with a few drops of water—reboots oil-racked summertime skin and doubles as both an easy overnight spot treatment or gentle exfoliant when blended with a not-too-coarse sea salt. Billed as “100% natural skincare built for city life,” the whole range will likely serve you well wherever your summer travel plans may take you.
