Fall 2013 Beauty: The Other SXSW Showcase

-------

Sometimes, we get so obsessed with a specific trend that we start noticing it everywhere. It remains to be seen if this is due to its eventual proliferation or our own fascination, but either way, we’ve been seeing red a lot recently. We first noticed the unlikely eye color at the Fall shows—backstage at Gucci, Anthony Vaccarello, Altuzarra, and Prabal Gurung (more on that when the fourth issue of Style.com/Print hits newsstands next month), and in the front rows when Cher brought the shadow shade to Gareth Pugh and Balmain. Then this weekend at SXSW, Erykah Badu dusted the color all over her lids at the VICE Kills Texas Music Showcase in Austin. Badu is something of a beauty chameleon and has never shied away from a little hair and makeup experimentation. Her latest look just happens to be very Fall 2013: There’s something a little Marc Jacobs-y about that black shag, no?

One Actress, Three Hairstyles

-------

The press-junket portion of any movie release can be demanding—especially if you’re promoting two films at once while speaking at film conferences, as Olivia Wilde has been doing. The multitasking actress, who doubles as a Revlon global ambassador when she’s not on-screen, was in Austin over the weekend to speak at the New Grass Roots: Digital Age Movie Marketing panel at the SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival, during which she was also on hand to support Drinking Buddies, her new film costarring Anna Kendrick. Then, last night, it was off to L.A. for the premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, with Steve Carell and Jim Carrey. Impressively, Wilde had three distinctly different, event-appropriate hairstyles up her sleeve for each occasion: center-parted and straight to talk shop; a cute retro faux bob for her first Texas-based comedic release; and glamorous ombré waves for the second, in Hollywood. Well played, Wilde. Which look is your favorite?
