Fun fact about Cyndi Lauper: Before she became a star, the she-bopper worked at downtown New York City thrift store Screaming Mimi's. Karen Elson had a fashion day job, too, before she went into the studio with husband Jack White to record her debut album, The Ghost Who Walks. The title comes from Elson's teenage nickname—friends called the tall, spectrally pale redhead "the ghost who walks," presumably because that's what she looked like. And not—likewise presumably—because Elson's friends think gingers lack souls. There's plenty of soul on The Ghost Who Walks, and we can't help pointing out that Elson is also kind of a looker, red hair and all.
