a monthly look at the faces
that have made history

mother-
daughter
pairs

Is style in the genes? From the looks of some
of these mother-daughter pairs—Isabella Rossellini and Elettra Wiedemann, Danielle Steel and the Traina sisters, Madonna and Lourdes—the answer is yes. Having Madge's closets to dig through must be nice, but these mamas are good for more than just their treasure troves of designer clothes. They can always be relied on for a word or two of advice.

"Vamp it up, have fun when you're young" is the mantra Pat Cleveland, the Halston and Stephen Burrows muse, passed on to her daughter Anna. For her part, though, Anna says that her real style education came not from her model mom's spoken tips but simply from "being around her." Happy Mother's Day.
