Beauty Icon: Country Singers

June Carter
The first successful country recording group surfaced in the 1920's with the Carter Family. Mother Maybelle Carter in particular had unique musical gifts, inventing her own style of guitar playing, deemed the "Carter scratch." Daughter June Carter inherited her mama's musical gifts, playing guitar, banjo, and harmonica before touring with Elvis early in her career. One of her best-known tunes was "Jackson," a duet she performed with future husband Johnny Cash; it regained popularity in 2005 with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon's Walk the Line.
