Happy Fashion Feet
I haven’t exactly been scaling the Italian Alps in my spare time, but Milan fashion week has certainly taken its toll on my feet. Since nonpractical footwear is par for the course, I decided to pack and road test (well…not exactly road, but bed rest after trekking to and from shows) Le Couvent des Minimes Hiker’s Foot Healer and Leg Soothing Lotion. The brand was inspired by a convent in the South of France—where botanist monks, and centuries later, the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary—helped to heal and nourish their community through their garden and natural recipes. The doors of this religious retreat were also open to weary travelers in search of a place to rest, hence the thinking behind these two products.
The lotion contains a blend of ivy, red vine, cypress, and spearmint to aid in circulation, and white grape-seed oil and shea butter to moisturize. And the thicker foot cream softens calluses with a few of the same ingredients (like shea butter and ivy), but the addition of wintergreen and borage oil (derived from a Mediterranean herb) provides an extra surge of hydration. Plus, tapioca powder helps prevent chaffing if you use the formula before slipping into heels. Even better: Neither make your skin smell like toothpaste, as they purify with a delicate mixture of alpine mint, lemon, and litsea cubeba essences. This dynamic duo is the ideal treatment after dashing from one designer to the next, or for any day you don’t have do-gooders to rub your feet at the ready.—Amber Kallor
