The 10 Best Lipsticks From NARS’ New Audacious Collection
What better way to toast a landmark birthday than with a bevy of babes? That’s exactly how NARS is celebrating 20 years in the business. The new Audacious Lipstick collection raises a proverbial glass to the anniversary and the beginnings of the brand (François Nars started his company with 12 statement-making tubes) with a hefty 40-shade release. Thanks to a buttery finish and a magnetic case that clicks deliciously shut, the pigment-drenched formula manages to one-up the cosmetic giant’s already gold-standard lipsticks in terms of luxury. And with so many hues—from sex kitten nudes to deep jewel tones and brilliant orchids—there’s surely something to flatter every skin tone and fulfill every desire. Though Nars and his team no doubt had certain iconic women in mind when naming the shades (think Brigitte, Bette, Greta, and Charlotte, whose namesake Ms. Rampling is the face of the campaign), we’ve taken the liberty of doing a little NYC free association with 10 of our favorite shades (seen above).
Fanny: This rich raspberry is for uptown girls “slumming it” on Bushwick rooftops. It pairs nicely with a borrowed “outer-borough” ensemble.
Geraldine: As fiery retro-oranges go, this one is hard to beat. Soak up the last of summer’s rays (and scarf up a few final tacos, while you’re at it) in the Rockaways.
Raquel: Perfect for risqué poolside applications, pack this pinky nude for your next visit to the Soho House roof.
Angela: An electric orchid that’s not for wallflowers—wear this while Instagramming your way through the Jeff Koons retrospective at the Whitney.
Marlene: A certain burlesque vibe makes this velvety brick hue fitting for a night at The Box.
Ingrid: Deep, dark, and vampy—take in a noir at the Film Forum wearing this. Whiskey chaser optional.
Claudia: A cool ’60s pink—slick this bright bubblegum across your lips before flirting in the shadowy stacks at the Strand.
Deborah: Swipe on this luxe chocolate shade for late afternoon cocktails at the Wythe Hotel.
Leslie: A sumptuous, muted red that’s both fetching and long-lasting enough to take you from a search for the underground speakeasy to after-hours at Five Guys.
Audrey: Sure, this rich currant is plenty good in the warm weather, but wait until fall hits and you can don it during a cozy dinner at Navy.
Available August 15, NARS The Audacious Collection lipsticks, $32 each; narscosmetics.com and Barneys New York (featuring 10 exclusive shades).
