Walk Down the Aisle Wearing a Piece of History
Walker + Walker—a new Brit beauty brand conceived by Rococo Nail Apparel’s sister duo, Ange and Vernice Walker—knows how to make an entrance. The range of bespoke lacquers dubbed Exhibitionist launched in tandem with Victoria & Albert’s much-anticipated Wedding Dresses: 1775-2014 exhibit that opened this month in London. For its capsule collection, Love and Romance, the sisters were inspired by some of the world’s most astonishing bridal gowns—worn by equally astonishing women (including Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani, and more). They also closely looked at dresses from centuries past, including the striped cream silk number patterned with floral sprigs belonging to 19th-century It girl Eliza Larken.
All six varnishes ($24 each) were created with the big day in mind. Halo, Serendipity, and Love’s Young Dream are classic and demure pastels. But for the bold bride, or perhaps the after-party, there are three hues that pack significantly more punch: Unconventional (coral), Wed in Red (crimson), and Exotica (a plum similar to Dita Von Teese’s purple iridescent Vivienne Westwood gown, worn when she wed Marilyn Manson in 2005). Also included in the lineup is the Rose Diamond Treatment Basecoat ($28), formulated with rose oil and diamond dust to strengthen tips. And like a bouquet, the rose scent lasts for hours. The Sterling Silver Veil Topcoat ($34) boasts real silver particles to add a subtle bit of bling to your basic manicure and reflects the longstanding aristocratic tradition of weaving sterling-silver thread into a bride’s veil. While not all of the marriages showcased at the museum ended in happily ever after, these classic colors, treatment, and special effect are designed to stand the test of time.
