Kate Spade Toasts Twirl
Diehard Kate Spade fans may recall her first fragrance, which bowed in 2002 and has remained the company’s sole beauty offering since. Much like Mrs. Spade herself, the eponymous eau is no longer a major presence within the brand, which is what prompted the company’s current creative director, Deborah Lloyd, to introduce Twirl. “It’s the new Kate Spade vs. the heritage,” Lloyd said of her sweet magnolia, pink watermelon, blackberry, and orange blossom fragrance over cocktails and dinner at Tribeca’s Plein Sud last night. “Kate left such a good DNA and my world is taking it forward and bringing in modernity. The fragrance brings everything together.” VIPs like Alexis Bledel and Jessica Szohr were on hand for sniff tests. “I like anything fresh and light—that you can smell but isn’t too much,” Szohr said of her fragrance preferences. (As for her makeup of choice, the oft smoky-eyed Gossip Girl revealed a love for NARS eyeliners and Burberry Cosmetics’ new bronzer, both of which she will likely be wearing this week when she stops by shows like Rag & Bone, Chris Benz, and Marchesa). 30 Rock‘s Katrina Bowden chimed in, “I like anything that makes me smell like a sugar cookie.” Twirl’s French macaroon bottom note should suit her just fine.
