EXCLUSIVE: Behind The Scenes At Joseph Altuzarra’s Resort Lookbook Shoot
For rising star Joseph Altuzarra, this Resort season marks a series of important firsts. Most excitingly, the designer is showing his debut Cruise collection, which means more of his special brand of edgy tailoring. The second development is Altuzarra’s lookbook for the collection. “It’s resort in the very French sense of the word,” the designer told us, as photographer Steven Pan took snaps of Danielle Zinaich and Aurélie Claudel. “It’s very Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve but with a casual spirit—with ease, very urban,” Altuzarra continued.
This interesting, inspirational mix was helped along by a very precise beauty look that harked back to the decade Altuzarra channeled with overwhelming success for Fall. “It’s nineties minimalism,” makeup artist Yadin explained as he prepped models skin with MAC Face + Body Foundation. “We wanted to make that modern, though,” he elaborated, dabbing its Cream Colour Base in Pearl onto the tops of cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and onto the cupid’s bow of lips for a “glowy” finish. Blending MAC Cream Colour Base in Taupe across lids and dragging it underneath the lower lash line for structure, Yadin finished the face with “a bit of a brow,” multiple swipes of MAC Zoom Lash Mascara, and a few dabs of its Lip Conditioner, which he dotted onto eyes for a touch of shine. “It’s polished and refined. That’s what takes it away from [the makeup from] Fall.”
Another giveaway that Altuzarra has moved on from the Kate Moss-gone-grunge idea that scored big back in February was that a different nineties-era catwalker popped up on the inspiration board. “We looked through a lot of old pictures of Guinevere [Van Seenus] from Vogue U.K.,” hairstylist David von Cannon revealed as he manipulated straightened strands for a slicked-down effect. Prepping hair with Frédéric Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel, von Cannon applied heat before flat-ironing and creating a deep side part.
