Music And The Micro-Bang
If you are a child of the nineties, Fiona Apple likely made an indelible mark on your early music taste; the video of her writhing around while crooning 1997′s “Criminal” in a series of requisite midriffs followed by not much else was arguably one of the day’s major MTV moments. Fifteen years later, Apple is back, headlining SXSW, and right on trend, she’s cut herself a set of Fall’s micro-bangs—with long, side layers—for the occasion. An early adopter of the grunge era’s languid middle part, Apple has stayed pretty true to the style for much of the aughts until recently making the move to forehead fringe. Fashion’s new favorite hair accessory is, of course, an old indie rock mainstay, but we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of it over the next few months. Thoughts on one of its first off-the-runway appearances?
