Beauty Etiquetter: Tipping And Gifting In The New Year
Beauty Etiquetter is a new column on Beauty Counter in which we address your beauty protocol predicaments with candid advice from industry experts and those in-the-know. To submit a question, email celia email@example.com.
The Quandary: What’s the right way to show my appreciation to the beauty experts I see regularly throughout the year?
The Expert in Residence: Lauren Remington Platt, founder of the beauty membership service Vênsette.
The Advice: “When it comes to your hairstylist, colorist, facialist and manicurist, I think a tip that’s the standard 20 percent of the cost of service you normally get is appropriate. As for whether you should include an additional gift, that is really a personal preference and it depends on your relationship with your expert. If you prefer not to give cash, make it a point to give a donation to the charity your pro is passionate about or pledge your support in their name. But more importantly throughout the year I support my team of beauty experts and their businesses by tweeting and posting about their talents and giving what I think is the best gift you can give: referrals to all my friends.”
