The Day-to-Night Headband Chronicles of Marion Cotillard
Brigitte Bardot isn’t just the reigning example of Riviera chic, but she also exemplifies the power of the headband. Countless times she was captured wearing a wide, black version stretched over her ears, with her signature blond bump fluffed up in back. And it appears that another French actress is taking her red-carpet cues from the icon—albeit as a brunette. Marion Cotillard kept the ocean breezes at bay during daylight hours with a gauzy strip of nude nylon (reminiscent of the tone-on-tone bands worn at Marc Jacobs Fall 2014 show), swapping it out for a ring of hair (quite possibly an extension) for the evening premiere of L’Homme Qu’On Aimait Trop. To replicate her afternoon accessory, I suggest trying a little trick I picked up on the sidelines of the soccer field (a place I obviously scored more beauty tips than goals): Use athletic prewrap—a clingy foam that stretches easily around the head—in a natural hue to create a headband, tying it off underneath a side-swung ponytail. At $3 a roll, copying a look from Cannes never came so cheap.
