Flashback Friday: Art-spiration
Flashback Friday is a feature on Beauty Counter in which we pore over the pages of our favorite glossies from decades past in search of a little modern-day makeup and hair inspiration.
The Moment: Painterly Eyes
The Motivation: Makeup pro Peter Philips used lids as his canvas at Chanel’s Spring 2014 show, swathing them with bold flashes of color via cakes of theatrical paint. (The swatches had to be strong so that the crowd at the Grand Palais could see models’ eyes from the last row of the stadium-style seating.) This image from an eighties editorial, however, offers a softer version of Philips’ modern-day approach. Powder shadows appear to be the formula employed here, lending a more delicate finish. Should you be feeling bold enough to DIY (perhaps make it your look for this weekend’s Coachella festivities), be sure to base with a primer so that the pigment stands out…and stays in place during your dance party.—Tara Lamont-Djite
